MVHR BOARD MEMBER OPPORTUNITIES


Mountain Valley Horse Rescue (MVHR) has opportunities to join its all volunteer Board of Directors.  If you have interest in applying for one of the open seats, please review the following information and submit a Letter of Interest!


General Board Roles & Functions

The primary roles of the MVHR Board, as a whole, are to:

  • Develop, review and oversee implementation of the organization's mission and purpose.

  • Select, manage, support and evaluate the Executive Director.

  • Provide proper financial oversight of all aspects of the organization.

  • Ensure adequate resources for sustainable operation of the organization.

  • Create, develop and maintain relationships with individuals and organizations to build a community of support for MVHR.

  • Plan and execute fundraising (with staff and other volunteer support).

  • Recruit and orient new board members, and assess board performance.

  • Enhance the organization’s public standing.

  • Determine, monitor, and strengthen MVHR’s programs and services.

  • Ensure effective organizational planning.

  • Fill support gaps as needed -- on site, special events, and administrative.

  • Make individually significant financial contributions at a level that demonstrates commitment to MVHR and is within each Board Member’s means. 

  • Lead and/or work on projects and activities that match the individual skills brought to the Board, and support the General Roles and Functions of the board as whole. 

  • Be open to learning new skills that will benefit MVHR’s mission.

  • Ensure legal and ethical integrity and maintain accountability of the organization.



Time Commitment - 

Average 5 hours/week  

Current board members spend an average of 5 hours/week on MVHR projects, on site and/or from home.  Officers spend 10 or more.  This includes monthly Board meetings currently on the 2nd  Monday of each month in the evening.

A key Board goal is to be as diverse a group of individuals as possible, all with a dedication to the MVHR Mission and Values and a blend of the skills listed. Ideally we also will be from all of our region: Eagle, Routt, Garfield, Moffat, Pitkin, Summit, Lake.
