Katie & Chiquita: A Partnership of Grace

Katie started coming to MVHR several years ago as a Summer Camper. Together with her mom she has volunteered for several years as well. Now Katie takes horseback riding lessons locally. This is her story on how she made a connection with Chiquita, a horse adopted from MVHR in 2022.

"Katie Sprincz and the horse, Chiquita, formed a partnership defined by trust, elegance, and connection. Chiquita is a radiant palomino mare whose gentle spirit shines through in every interaction. She has a special gift for bonding with young riders, and with Katie, that bond was instantaneous."

"From their very first lesson, Katie and Chiquita’s connection grew into something extraordinary. By the summer of 2025, the pair were confidently competing in eight local Gymkhanas at the Eagle County Fairgrounds. In the bustling atmosphere of the show arena, Chiquita’s calm presence and surefootedness stood out as she moved with fluid power through flags, barrels, and agility poles. Their unity was unmistakable to anyone watching."

"Beyond competition, Katie finds joy in the quieter moments—grooming, bathing, and simply spending time at the stables. Horses, unlike people, offer a judgment-free space where riders feel seen, accepted, and free to express themselves. Chiquita, with her sensitivity to human energy, embodies this truth. She doesn’t care about social appearances or small mistakes; she cares about connection."

"Chiquita’s outer beauty—her flowing cream-colored mane and silky tail glowing in the sunlight—perfectly reflects her steady temperament. Chiquita has been a source of confidence and resilience and is both a trusted partner and a patient teacher for Katie. When a flag is dropped or a barrel misjudged, Katie has learned not to dwell on errors but to move forward, just as Chiquita does. It’s a lesson in self-compassion that resonates far beyond the arena. Chiquita has been given a second chance to shine. She is living proof of the resilience and grace of MVHR horses—a true diamond in the rough whose brilliance now inspires all who meet her."
