Journeys of Hope Continue...

2023 has been a special year for MVHR, as we celebrated the opening of Robin’s Nest, the beginning of remodeling of the Old Barn, and continued to see the number of horses in need keep our corrals full. New and unexpected challenges arose too, that became opportunities to restructure Journeys of Hope to be even more beneficial to each and every horse that stepped onto the property.

With the new training facility “open for business”, MVHR began welcoming Versatile Equine for monthly clinics at the ranch. With their insight, newly restructured MVHR staff has been able to fully unpack the amazing skills of the beautiful and ever changing herd of rescued horses, realizing more than ever the capacity that each of these horses has for a full and wonderful life beyond their time in the rescue world.

Some adoption highlights include:

  • Rex - whose brief visit at MVHR helped him on to a life of competitive endurance riding. This handsome guy is now completing 25 and 50 mile rides with his new partner…he has found his calling.

  • Stormy and Boomer - these sweet gentlemen have moved onto lives growing the community of horse advocates through summer camps and meeting kids everyday.

  • Sunny - who quickly found a life guiding and packing in the Colorado mountains.

  • Hans - the Belgian draft horse, whose magnificence has found love and pampering and in return he is a friend of donkeys

  • Bonita and Bear and Noche - who took the training foundations found here at MVHR off to adventures with loving new owners and as working ranch horses in western Colorado.

  • Phantom - who weathered a false start earlier in the year because it was all worth it - to find the love and adoration of her very own people.

  • Sweetie - whose name found her a family of her own to enjoy playing on the trails with.

  • And Winston - who found a girl of his own for a future of moving cows and trick riding.

Now MVHR heads into the New Year with an incredible herd, still looking for their own people, such as:

  • Firefly who is ready for a partner and ranch horse life, chasing cows in the mountains.

  • Bill who would like to take leisurely rides after winning hundreds of thousands on the track.

  • Freckles, who is holding out for someone special to take on the trail, who will recognize what a beautiful, full spirit she is.

  • Sisco who is in boot camp with Versatile Equine to learn all he can.

  • Toffee who will do anything for someone willing to pay it forward with gentle hands and TLC.

  • Peanut who is looking for someone to join her on ALL DAY trail rides.

  • and Two year old thoroughbred Truly, who truly is as sweet as they come, with tons of potential.

Each of these amazing horses, and each of the rest of the 27 in the MVHR herd defies the stereotype of the “rescue” horse that has little left, and reminds us how important our work is. To help those horses who simply need time and space to make a transition to a new and wonderful life full of safety, love and opportunity.

In 2024, MVHR will continue working to help more horses, by helping them make a Journey of Hope to a new life and then helping those who are next….

But we need your help to make it all possible. To change lives for horses, one at a time. To give them an opportunity at Hope when their owners no longer can.

Please, join us, in making Hope possible. Make your year end donation TODAY. Forward these stories to friends, share why you support MVHR, and ask them to do the same!
