An Adoptive Home Series: Shadow 2022

Shadow

Shadow, a black gentle gelding came to MVHR in October 2021, when his owner surrendered him due to being unable to care for him. They shared he had not been ridden in some years, because he bucked and likely had kissing spines, although he never was seen by a vet to confirm this.

As we worked with Shadow through his evaluation, we found no evidence of kissing spines or the inability to be ridden, and although he needed a tune up, this sweet gentleman quickly met two sisters, who had volunteered, come to horse camp and taken lessons at MVHR, who fell in love with him in December 2021. Here is their story:

"My sister and I started volunteering at Mountain Valley Horse Rescue during COVID, and we fell in love with horses, so much that we wanted a horse of our own. Our parents told us that we could get a horse if we paid for it, so my sister and I saved up money from pet sitting, and ended up raising enough money to adopt Shadow"

"When we first got Shadow, we didn’t know much about horses, but Shadow was the perfect teacher. He taught us how to build a valuable relationship with a horse through groundwork, and how to build trust.

Because of MVHR I was able to grow with Shadow and participate in 4H with him and develop an incredible bond. Shadow is currently being leased out to Karla, a wonderful lady at our barn who spoils him endlessly, and he is living his best life.

"Shadow and MVHR are the reason why I have gotten to where I am today, and have taught me everything I know to be able to continue to advance in my riding and groundwork skills. Thank you MVHR for playing a huge part in shaping my life into what it is today."

Thank you Lily for sharing this update and for adopting Shadow in 2022! We are so glad Shadow is now enjoying his best live with Karla!
