October 2026 Newsletter
...and just like it's the third week in October.
Winter is knocking on the ranch' doors with colder temperatures and even our first freeze last week. The herd is ready for the seasonal changes and recently received their fall check-ups and vaccines. Staff is busy preparing for the weather fluctuations by ensuring sheets and blankets are ready, longer water hoses are put away and plans are in place to switch the water troughs in each corral to the winterized ones.
We started the month of October with 40 horses on our census and remain over capacity with more horses on our waitlist. With winter right around the corner, MVHR will work hard to make room for those at-risk horses that need a place to land soon. Adoptions make that possible, so if you or someone you know is looking for a horse or could make room for one more, come meet the herd! We have a wonderful variety of horses ready to find their person! Finalized adoptions allow MVHR to welcome more horses in need, need that is always growing but even more in recent months.
The ranch also remains busy with amazing volunteers and service groups coming to help around the ranch and love on the horses. We are grateful to have welcomed several schools including freshman from Vail Christian High School, 4th, 7th & 8th grade students from Eagle County Charter Academy, and Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy, all within the last month! Thank you to all our volunteers for helping the horses and the ranch!
Are you looking to get more involved and spend time with horses? Our next Community Volunteer Day is THIS Saturday, October 24th from 9:30am-12pm. No need to RSVP, just show up! More details further in this newsletter!
Another Family Fun Event at the ranch is also this weekend, MVHR's 3rd Annual Trick or Trot, this Sunday September 25th from 1-3pm. To learn more and to RSVP, scroll down!
Also mark your calendars for "Beer for Horses" at Eagle River Brewing Company in Gypsum on Friday, November 21 where enjoying a delicious, locally brewed beer will support the herd!
